Trying to learn about US income taxes? Check out this interactive site by the US Treasury Department under whom comes the IRS (Internal Revenue Service), the department that manages the federal tax portion of the tax deducted from your pay-check.

Find federal tax forms here. If you didn't know it, you use one of the 1040 series of forms to file federal income tax returns.

Do you need California state tax forms, have some questions to ask or simply wonder what happens to your tax dollars? Then go to this site by the California Franchise Tax Board. Find the California state tax forms here. You use one of the 540 series of forms to file California state income tax returns.

So you've relocated in the past year to a new state and are now desperately looking for the state tax forms for your previous state? If the tax forms are available on the web, then you'll find a link to these forms here. You can also look for them here.

Interested in the rate at which you are taxed federally? Check this page out. (Note that you cannot use the rates to compute taxes if your taxable income is less than $100,000 -- the rates are just for information purposes.)

Want to know what percentage of your pay is deducted as state tax? Check this chart by the Tax Foundation for all the states.

Are you trying to file taxes by yourself and find it tough going? Then maybe you could consider tax preparation software. They are very comprehensive and cover most normal tax returns including single/joint filing, investment income, etc. Take a look at the list of available software here.

If you are adventurous, you could try online tax preparation. This, usually, is cheaper than buying tax preparation software and normally covers everything regular tax preparation software covers. Follow this link to a list of online tax preparation sites that guide you through filling up the appropriate forms and for a small charge will allow you to print out these forms or even file electronically (e-file).

Finally, try to use e-file. Filing your tax returns electronically is very simple and generally results in faster refunds. Read more about e-file here. If you are not doing taxes yourself or are not using tax preparation software, find your nearest e-file provider here.
